Advent Conspiracy -- Give More
THE MATERIAL DARKNESS -- The people living in the darkness have seen a great light Isaiah 9:2. The materialism of our generation is another form of darkness. The serpant tempted Eve by claiming the fruit would make her wise, but it wasn't until she saw that it was GOOD, PLEASING, and DESIRABLE that she ate it. This Christmas we must come to grips with our temptation at pleasing ourselves and Welcoming the coming Darkness.

When Kingdoms Collide -- The arrival of Magi in Jerusalem caused quite a stirr. Those searching for Christ and the meaning of life intersect with those who are protected in a walled city with a king who is more interested in building momuments to himself than acknowledging God's ultimate authority. When Christmas collides with our lives are we too "deeply disturbed"? Join the conspiracy. The audio is on iTunes or www.sermon.net/First_Church (http://www.sermon.net/First_Church)

It is the desire of First United Methodist Church that we become a community of Compelling Generosity. As the people of God, we should reflect the heart of God, whose generosity is unfathomable. Together we can offer the world an alternative to personal debt and invite God’s generosity into our lives.

Our Purpose in life to make a difference, not just go through the motions.
The minute you begin to do what you are called to do, it's a different kind of life.

The first and greatest spiritual discipline has got to be rejoicing in the Lord. Then why is it so hard to do?
Finding Jesus means finding the help and healing for the soul.

It is “through water and the Spirit” that we enter into new spiritual life in relationship to God in Christ. Baptism of an infant powerfully portrays the utter dependence which all of us have on God. The sacrament is the sign of God’s promise of ongoing grace, offering continual forgiveness and transformation throughout our lives. We do not receive all of the benefits of baptism at once; this is particularly obvious when infants are baptized. At whatever age it is received, baptism demonstrates our inclusion in the covenant with God through the church and our access to the divine grace that claims, sustains, and saves us.

Based on Luke 1:46-55, Mary's Magnificat reminds us of the irrationality of God's love found in Christmas. As Christians, we too should be irrational in our approach to life, spirituality, and seeing the best in others.
